Daytona Beach, Fla. - A front line staffer has been named the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Volusia County's 2017 Employee of the Year. Pamela Mihalik has worked in three areas in her 20 years of service - all of which support the efforts to protect, promote and improve the health of all people especially young ones.
"Pam works in a position that isn't the first or even the second job that comes to mind when you think about public health," said DOH-Volusia Administrator Patricia Boswell. "All of our staff play an integral role in public health and in serving our clients. By Pam earning this award, she is underscoring the importance each staff position in the public health arena."
As a staff assistant assigned to the Healthy Start Program, Mihalik's work is an essential part of monitoring at-risk pregnancies. She ensures statistics for prenatal and immunizations is entered, accurate and timely. She also juggles several other programs and works closely with community partners and DOH-Volusia.
Her nomination form states, "Ms. Mihalik has a quiet presence and always has a positive attitude. (She) can easily be overlooked as she is quiet in her presentation. However she consistently goes above expectations in meeting other's needs."
Mihalik began her DOH career in 1997 as a clerk typist specialist in the immunizations section. She also has served in the clinic and medical records. She was promoted to senior clerk and then to staff assistant.
