SANFORD, Fla. - Good oral health is important for overall health, and the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) reminds parents about the importance of keeping their children’s smile healthy by having their teeth checked before the new school year.

“Visiting the dentist before school starts should be at the top of the back to school list along with school physicals, immunizations and all the school supplies needed to return to the classroom,” said Donna Walsh, health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County. “Brushing, flossing, eating less sugary food and drinks along with dental checkups every six months are important to ensure a healthy smile.”

DOH-Seminole’s Dental Program offers x-rays, cleanings, sealants, fillings and extractions to children and limited services for adults. Payment options include Medicaid and self-pay. To schedule an appointment for your child please call (407) 665-3346.

During the school year, the health department’s dental program partners with Seminole County Public Schools to offer preventive dental services for students.
